I’m always looking for new play dough ideas for the kids. New scents, tools, add-ins, etc. My daughter turned 4 recently and we had a confetti cake for her, as I was mixing the batter I knew THAT smell had to become my next play dough scent!
You’ll need 1 box of confetti (Rainbow Bit) cake mix:
In the bowl of a stand mixer, with a dough hook attached, add in:
- the cake mix
- 1 cup of flour
- 2 tbsps cream of tartar
- 2 tbsps oil
- 1/2 cup salt
Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of boiling water and mix until the dough comes together. It may still be a little sticky at this point. Toss some flour on the counter and knead the dough until it is smooth and no longer sticky.
I put this out for the kids with some cake decorating tools, cookie cutters, rolling pins and birthday candles. They LOVED it!
The texture is fairly firm, and this play dough smells SO good!
The kids created birthday cakes, cookies and cupcakes:
Here’s a pin-able copy of the recipe!
